Meth Testing and Screening in Tauranga and Bay of Plenty
Instant on-site meth screening with same-day results
What is Meth Testing?
Methamphetamine contamination is a real and measurable risk in New Zealand rental and second-hand housing. The House Inspector offers on-site meth screening using high-sensitivity instant test kits — either as part of your pre-purchase builders report or as a standalone service. Results are available same day, included in your inspection documentation, with no lab wait and no separate visit required.
How is Works
Swabs are collected from high-traffic surfaces — kitchen benches, bathrooms, light switches, and door handles — and processed on site using instant high-sensitivity screening kits. The entire process takes less than 15 minutes. Results are included in your report the same day, clearly documented alongside your inspection findings.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a meth screen test for?
Our instant on-site screening tests for the presence of methamphetamine above a high-sensitivity threshold at the sampled locations. Results are reported clearly in your inspection documentation the same day.
Do I need meth testing for a rental property?
There is no current statutory requirement for meth testing at tenancy changeover in New Zealand. However, landlords and property managers increasingly use baseline screening to protect against contamination claims. A pre-purchase screen is also recommended for any property with an uncertain occupancy history.
Can meth screening be added to a builders report?
Yes. This is the most cost-effective option. Screening is carried out during the inspection and results are included in your report, with no separate visit required.
How many swabs do I need?
For most pre-purchase assessments, a 3-swab standard screen of the high-traffic areas is sufficient. For rental properties or where there is a specific concern, a full house screen covering all bedrooms and bathrooms provides broader coverage.
